We have several opportunities for Gringos and Ticos who live in Atenas to help our community. · Festival of Dance—This year’s festival of dance was a standing-room-only event (see pictures below). Usually occurring in late October or early November, we had over 15 different group presentations this year, and we always need help preparing the background, setting up for the performance, taking entrance fees, and cleaning up. It is truly one of the most enjoyable gatherings of the year! · Christmas Angels— We want to make sure that every child in Atenas gets to enjoy Christmas. Every year, we collect names of children who need gifts, and make an angel for each one. Starting in October community members can stop bye and pick up an angel, buy a gift for the child they picked, wrap the gift and return it. In early December, we had a party to give all of the gifts away. This year, 400 kids got Christmas gifts that otherwise may not have. This is a HUGE undertaking, and we are always looking for helpers! · Sundays in the Park—Starting in January and going through March, Su Espacio works in conjunction with the Cultural Committee to organize cultural events every Sunday in the Central Park. We are always looking for new ideas and volunteers to make this event great! · English Classes—When the children of Atenas are on break from school, during the months of January and July, Su Espacio offers English classes to local children who want to participate. We always need more English teachers. · Feria del Clima—Spanish for “The Festival of the Climate”, this is a community celebration to recognize the fact that Atenas has, without question, the best climate in the world. Su Espacio, again with the Cultural Committee, works to help make this annual event in April a success. Who says you can't make a difference? You can make a lot of difference in the future of this town and the children living here. Act now! |
